I was having lunch with friends and talking about the difficulties of being an ’emerging’ writer. I talked about setting up a blog but didn’t know what to write about. A friend then suggested setting up a blog writing about the trials and tribulations of an emerging writer. Now why didn’t I think of that? Simple and yet something I certainly can write about. There would be many of us out there who are trying to break into the publishing world and are at the mercy of Literary Agents and Publishers. Granted not every story is publishable but you don’t know until you try. This is how I started writing…
About 12 years ago, I was in a car accident, my third one over a three year span. Let me give you a brief picture: first accident, I was a passenger with my sister when a car t-boned us; second accident, I was rear ended by a four-wheel drive with a roo bar when turning into a driveway; and third accident, travelling home from work on a main highway when someone decided to try her luck and cut across the road smashing into the passenger side of my car. Anyway, I was off work for three months and needed to do something to occupy my brain. So I started writing. Small spurts because I couldn’t sit for long periods. I wrote my first book but then filed it away never to be seen ever again.
I got serious about writing in 2000. Went to Europe on a Contiki tour, visited the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and watched the movie release of Gladiator. I have always been fascinated by Ancient History and enjoyed reading mythology, so thought why not marry the two and write a story. And that is what I have done. Revisiting Greek Mythology and ancient history to create a trilogy called Eternal Quest.
The beginnings of a new dream began to evolve.
This is really good Luc – now, after encouraging you to start I have forgotten how to ‘like’ this so I can follow you (I have forgotten my facebook password ;0 )
