A re-think

I just read David Gaughran’s post on why he self-published an e-book rather than go down the track of agents and traditional publishing. He has certainly made me re-consider my options, especially spelling out the pros of such a venture. Granted, it will not be a bed of roses but it has helped me think more positively about going down that path.

I will do mine own research and be thoroughly versed in it before making any decisions. As they say to be forewarned is to be forearmed. (I think that’s how it goes). I haven’t as yet read an e-book, I like holding a book in my hands and turning the pages. I think that is why I’ve never really considered e-publishing. I like the idea as a possible option but will it hinder my chances at landing a contract with a publishing house?

I keep reading how some agents don’t even want to know about self-published books yet there are those writers (admittedly not many) who have drawn the attention of agents and publishers because of the number of downloads. I have to admit, I am torn. I guess the only way to find out is to go out and do it.

Yet, there are misgivings. Am I ready to dive in? How do you know when its the right time?
